Pennyroyal is an herb that smells good and is linked to mint. It is used a lot in perfume and traditional plant medicine. It has been used as medicine, and in colonial times, people used it to keep bugs away. Both the oil in the leaves and the leaves themselves are used to make drugs. Pennyroyal is used to treat the common cold, asthma, tiredness, to end a pregnancy (called an "abortion"), and to keep insects away, even though there are major safety issues. However, there is no good scientific evidence to back these uses.
Pennyroyal, an essential oil or tea extracted from the plant's leaves and floral crowns, has historical applications in traditional medicine for the purpose of stimulating abortion, mitigating menstrual symptoms, treating inflammatory conditions, chronic bronchitis, and minor maladies. The oil is extremely toxic, and internal consumption is not advised.
Tea containing pennyroyal has been utilized to treat migraines, fevers, congestion, indigestion, liver and kidney issues, and colds. In addition to being employed in the treatment of intestinal cramping, fever, smallpox, and tuberculosis, both fresh and desiccated pennyroyal leaves have been utilized to elicit perspiration and treat influenza.
◉ For respiration: Because it has a lot of menthol, pennyroyal has been used for years to help people cough and to ease the symptoms of colds and flu. It might help you breathe better and clear up your lungs and respiratory system. Some people say that the expectorant qualities of pennyroyal can help loosen phlegm and mucus so that it can be coughed up and out of the body.
◉ For Relaxation: Pennyroyal may have a little bit of a calming effect. In the past, it was used to stop panic. It may also help calm jitters and help people who have trouble sleeping. But there is no proof that pennyroyal works beyond oral evidence, and there are other natural ways to deal with stress and trouble sleeping that are safer and better studied.
◉ For Muscle and Joint Pain: Pennyroyal oil is used in massages to help treat sore muscles and joints because it warms and numbs. Pennyroyal can also help get rid of uric acid from the body, which makes it a good treatment for gout and arthritis.
◉ To Promote Menstruations: Pennyroyal is known to help women get pregnant. Over the years, it has been used to help women who don't have regular periods or who don't have periods at all get their periods going. There are, however, many other ways to get your period started, and many of them are much safer than pennyroyal. Because of this, most experts wouldn't suggest using pennyroyal in this way.
